I was a patient in A&E an then admitted to CDU for 5 days in October 2017. I was a bit apprehensive as I had heard of bad experiences in GGH. I cannot begin to praise the doctors, nurses and ancillary staff for the care that they gave me.
It was a very busy ward, but the staff all remained cheerful and friendly at all times.
The only thing that I didn't like was that there were no windows in the section that I was in, just pictures that tried to resemble windows!!!
The other thing that was a slight problem, was that the doctors always managed to come at mealtimes, and I ended up eating cold meals.
Apart from that everything was fine.
Thankyou
I would like to thank the staff of Steffan ward for the care and understanding for my sister Brenda Evans during her bad time and for Dewi ward who took care of her during her last few weeks. She was a very stubborn and strong willed lady. I admire you all with your patience and understanding.

I cannot write a more negative review- from 2am I suffered from severe abdominal pain which is a major cause for concern more so as I am 6 weeks pregnant. Sat for 5 hours- was seen by a Doctor who in turn got a Surgeon to aee me. Eventually booked me a bed for two hours so I could get a scan. After that they decided they were not insured to deal with a surgical matter of a pregnant nature. Was sent to Carmarthen- sat for a further 5 hours- was seen by two Surgeons, a Nurse and two Health Care Assistants- all asked exactly the same questions. After waiting around for a further 3 hours with no outcome and bo information I decided to leave in pain. Absolute horrendous as expected from the failing NHS- lazy staff who would rather drink tea, go on breaks whilst the waiting area is full. Privatise the NHS as quickly as possible its a total disaster!
The care received on Derwen ward at Glangwili was second to none. We recently lost our dear mum and her final days were made so much easier by the staff here. She was treated with dignity and respect and the family given the upmost care.
NHS gets so much bad press - I cannot fault any of the care mum received.
Thank you for making our visits easy and for keeping us fully informed of the situation.
Diolch of gallon.
my appointment at Ophthalmology was a model of good practice; the doctor being extremely knowledgable, professional & sensitive. I'm afraid I can't recall his name but I saw him at the glangwili clinic on Monday June 26 @ 14.20
The follow up letter arrived today!
My profound thanks
If you have the option of another hospital, for goodness sake take it! The lack of care and general apathy to a clinically supported chronic condition was appalling.
If you get referred to CMATS, you'd be better off going to Tesco for all the help they are.
I've had mixed levels of treatment, over the years, at different hospitals, but Glangwili - and CMATS especially - are the absolute worst.
Good efficient care and management received 2 day by ED for my 14 year old daughter who sprained her ankle.... thankfully no fracture.... reassuring to know support available for us even when on holiday... 2 hrs from arrival to leaving with crutches and reassurance....not bad for a Dept under pressure on a Bank Holiday Sunday... thankyou especially to ED consultant who came to see us and supported the Junior Doctor with a second opinion...
There is very little positive that can be stated about the overall care which my family member had at the hands of medical pracitioners at this hospital. Nursing care was fair and good in some aspects.
Doctors - medical and surgical were absent/ hard to find when seeking information about patient's care and wellbeing.
The real issue here with this sort of review is that the only people it seeks to comment on are nursing staff.
The Ambulance service provided was poor and cause significant distress to all family members.
Brought in to A & E on Bank Holiday Monday by ambulance with my wife, both suffering chest pain whilst driving near Tenby on holiday. From the start we were treated with great care, kindness, respect and professionalism. Tests were carried out without fuss, in good time and results came swiftly and were delivered with full explanations. The care of nurses (one in particular) was attentive, respectful and engaging; the attention of 'junior' doctors was prompt, detailed and thorough, delivered with concern and obvious humanity. Referrals for opinions by the on-duty consultant were carried out with all reasonable efficiency, too and though I had to be discharged very late at night because of bed shortage, nothing was done in haste without careful assessment of medical need. This team represent the NHS at its best and we are grateful for the treatment we received.
